About the Awards

The awards have been created as a platform to showcase and celebrate the individuality and inspiration of aspiring fashion designers by helping them to develop their fashion careers.

Now in its second year the awards are a fantastic opportunity for young people with a career interest in the fashion industry to gain exposure whilst securing valuable experience in a competitive arena.

Young designers will compete for prizes, certificates in excellence and promotion of their winning designs. The overall winner will be chosen by a panel of fashion industry professionals.

The Fashion Showcase and Award Ceremony will take place in September 2009, further information regarding location and venue will be available in due course.

The winner of the 2008 award went to Rajvinder Bhatoa, with her Avant Garde an Evening Wear collection "Seraya Black" a former A Level student at King Edwards VI School in Handsworth, Birmingham was up against 24 finalists competing across 4 categories.

Raj commented: "Fashion to me is not simply a superficial means to an end; it’s a medium for expressing my identity thoughts and feelings. It’s such a fabulous branch of art that means so much to me. I thank the organisers of the Midlands Young Fashion Designer Awards so much for this opportunity, it has really fuelled my ambition even more, fashion design is my true passion, one that I will keep working hard towards to create myself a successful future. What the organisers have done is open doors to people like me, who otherwise wouldn't have the money or resources to further our careers in such positive ways - and for that, I thank the organisers of the MYFDA so much!"
